Meet the Founder and Principal Lawyer, Michael Poynter
Our Principal Mike Poynter has over 30 years of legal experience holding a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Melbourne. He also holds a Diploma of Advanced Securities from the Securities Institute of Australia.
MCP is founded on core values of integrity, honesty, justice and compassion. These values shape how Mike leads the team and how each team member approaches their work. At MCP Legal, their focus is on ensuring their client is heard every step of the way with a human first approach to their work.
Mike is a dedicated lawyer with expertise spanning family law, estate planning, small business and commercial matters, litigation, and trusts. He is known for his down to earth, client-first approach and the genuine care he brings to every matter. Beyond his work with clients, Mike is passionate about mentoring his team, helping them grow their knowledge of the law and develop a thoughtful, compassionate approach to supporting people through important life and business decisions.
Mike offers a friendly face and a relaxed approach to help clients feel relaxed in what is most of the time, a highly stressful or complicated time in their lives. He simplifies the law and delivers advice in Plain English, ensuring clients understand not only their rights, but every step of the journey. His approach is embedded in the MCP culture, with each team member not only being a highly skilled advocate, but someone who is approachable and has walked in your shoes.
Outside the office, Mike values quality time with family and friends and enjoys keeping active through yoga. He has a love for travel and new experiences, and you will often find him passionately supporting his AFL team, the Essendon Bombers.
